The World And The Corona Virus.

Corona virus: the way forward for the whole world. 

I have always been curious and amused about the nature of the planet we live. The earth is a very volatile planet that is constantly changing, destroying and rebuilding itself through its natural activities that span across eons.

From earthquakes to volcanoes, plagues, flus, viruses, bacteria, to tempest, to hurricane, heat waves, landslides, tsunamis and a host of other disasters, the mother earth keeps checking the world’s population by herself from the time of her creation.


As these natural disasters unfold, humans either learn to live by them and bear the consequences or perish in thousands or millions by them. As the level of science and technology grow in the world, the mortality rate to these natural disasters become drastically reduced to the extent that humans are now discovering most natural disasters long before they happen.  Yet, once in a while, these disasters happen unbidden, unexpectedly and unchecked for a considerable period of time before they are finally brought under control.

These are natural surprises but for some decades, now, man’s major enemy has been another man; not a natural disaster. This time however, the world has been taken by surprise again and the consequences are dire.

When the corona virus first broke out, there were rumours that the Chinese government tried to cover it up and hide it from the whole world. The veracity of this rumour is yet to be ascertained. The rumour even went further to say that the doctor who first discovered it on a patient last year was hushed and all the files on the patient were confiscated by the government in order to prevent it from leaking to the public.


Now let us imagine that the rumours above were true, can we really blame the Chinese? Have they really sinned against humanity by hiding this vital information from the world until it fired back on them? The answer to those questions are no. We cannot in all truth and honesty blame the Chinese government because every country in the world will never want to publicly declare her own lands unsafe when it knows what it stands to lose by such declarations.

So in the world of politics, what a country is expected to do in such situation  is to cover it up while it deals with it as secretly as possible in order not to create panic and destroy its own economy and that is exactly what China did.

Nigeria did something similar, despite the security issues and challenges in the country today; the Nigerian government keeps telling foreigners that Nigeria is safe. Boko Haram maims and kills with ungodly recklessness in the North; kidnappers are roaming freely through the streets in the Eastern parts of Nigeria and weapon wielding Fulani herdsmen keep butchering and slaughtering people in the other parts of the country, yet our government keeps telling investors that Nigeria is peaceful and safe.

In religion, this would have been called blatant lies but in politics, it is called diplomacy. So why shouldn’t China try to solve this problem alone when she didn’t know that it would be this bad?

The US President; President Donald Trump keeps referring to the virus as “The Chinese Virus”. This sentimental statement has sparked a mixed reaction from international audience. Many believe that the POTUS is right by calling it the Chinese Virus while many more believes that the POTUS is being a racist by calling it a Chinese virus just because it broke out from Wuhan Province, China. From my opinion, I think the POTUS is being inconsiderate by calling it that. Virus can break out in any part of the world as long as the climatic condition of the place is habitable by the virus. So calling it a Chinese virus rather its real name is high level of irresponsibility.

It is cheap politics and not so matured especially coming from a first class country like US. It makes US looks like a grown up man who still engages in bickering and childish tantrums. It is rumoured that the POTUS keeps calling it the Chinese Virus because the Chinese had accused the US of creating the virus in the first place and infecting the people in one of the most populated provinces in China.

All these are rumours with little or no iota of truth in them. The point is that the virus is a global predicament, this is not the time to start pointing accusing fingers and blaming one another, rather it should be the time to arise together to fight this virus as early as possible to a conclusive end, otherwise, the human race may be on its way to extinction in the nearest future.


I have to categorically state here that, fighting this virus country by country cannot work; there will still be recurrences and outbreaks of this virus in countries who think that they have defeated it because as long as people keep moving from one country to the other, the virus will keep spreading. This is the time when the world must act like one of those Hollywood movies where all countries will combine forces together to fight some dangerous aliens from space. We shouldn’t wait till the so called aliens come before we act with common sense for the common good of all.

Did you know that if all the countries in the world had combined efforts together to find the cure to this virus, contributing their best human and financial resources, this virus could have been swept under the carpet? The sad truth is, every country wants to be the only one to find the cure for this virus in order to be able to claim the medal.

This is just like a case of broomstick and a bunch of broomsticks. While a bunch of broomsticks will sweep the ground clean in a relatively short time, a broomstick will spend forever performing the same task!
If only each country would send her best scientists and enough money to a globally accepted laboratory where scientists (bacteriologist, virologists and pathologists ) would be on ground to work together in finding a permanent solution to this joint problem, imagine how sweet and reassuring that would be! Isn’t this  the world of our dreams? But no, we have never been truly united in our thoughts and actions and no shared travail can make us stick together, what a very messy world!

Steps Taken By Some Countries To Make Life Easier For Their Citizens During This Period. 

Many countries of the world had already closed their air and land borders in order to be able to monitor the spread of the virus.  Schools, restaurants, offices, companies, industries and religious places have been shut down to discourage further infection and to prevent social contact as much as possible.

 This single action is capable of crippling the economies of even the most buoyant countries and to send starvation and hunger to thousands of millions of families around the world.  In order to make this stay at home policy work for their citizens, some countries had already put in place funds, grants and loans to be released to their citizens while the pandemic lasts in order to sustain those families.

In a recent post released by the Whitehouse, the US government has reduced interest rates for loans to almost zero percent. This simply means that US citizens can borrow money from the financial institutions in the country by paying very little amount of money or none at all as interest on the money that they borrow. This will bring a sweet relief to those families that live on their weekly wages and income to have something to live on while the pandemic lasts.

ThePOTUS has reportedly assured the workers that are forced to stay at home that soon, money will soon arrive for them.

In Canada, the Prime Minster had assured the workers in the country saying “The Spread of COVID-19 is forcing all of us to change our ways, and we know it’s a big adjustment. But we have your back, and together we will get through this. For more details on this $82 billion economic plan and how it will help you, click here…”

In UK, on the government official website, the government has rolled out a list of assurances and benefits for both the working and non-workers who are forced to stay at home during this period. “For people who need to make a new claim for financial support… we understand that people who are required to stay at home   or are infected by coronavirus may need financial support and quickly, we announce that……”


The King of United Arab Emirates said on his twitter handle “I’d like to reassure every citizen and residents of the UAE that our country is definitely able to supply everyone with ALL the food and medicine they could ever need. We are well prepared to face any challenge that may arise at this time.


As for Nigeria and many other African countries, the governments have already declared a compulsory stay at home policy for their citizens yet; they have no plan whatsoever of how these citizens that are forced indoor should survive!

This shows how badly run and poorly managed Africa is. Nigeria is leading among the countries in Africa where some of the leaders don’t even know the full implication of the outbreak of this virus. For instance, even the Nigerian president couldn’t properly pronounce the virus while addressing the nation in a telecast, see the short video below
