He was born on the 20th of January, 1981 in Accra, Ghana but his dad was a Nigerian, his mum a Ghanaian. Unfortunately, Timi lost his mum (Mrs. Norah Dakolo) when he was just thirteen years old.
However, Timi Dakolo lived with his grandma (Ateni Dakolo and aunt (Susan Larry) in Port Harcourt and refused to live in Lagos with his parents because of the strong bond that existed among the three of them. Timi Dakolo said it in his song Let It Shine that his grandma was his inspiration and his earliest motivator even when things looked daunting and hopeless.
He began singing in church at twelve and from there onward, he became notable in the church and his immediate environment as a promising and talented singer. In 2003, Timi Dakolo joined a singing group called Purple Love as one of the founding members. The club ruled the Port Harcourt clubs for good two years before it became disbanded because many of its members gained admission into various higher institutions In the meantime, he won several awards and accolades, chiefly among them was the G.E FACTO that was held in the city of Port Harcourt. On his part, Timi Dakolo proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt, to study Communication Studies.
In 2006, he went for the audition of idols West Africa, held in Calabar. He was from the start of the competition seen as a possible winner because he had an amazing voice which made him one of the favourites of the judges. His exceptional singing performances earned him a place among the top24 in the competition. Unfortunately, he was brought the news of his grandmother’s death while he was [preparing for the 24th group stage.
Needless to say, the news of his grandmother’s death shook him because of the level of closeness between him and her. She was the one who raised him from childhood into adulthood, thus, she was like a mum to him. I can relate to this because I was raised by my grandmother too and it will pain me beyond words if I was told one day that she is gone.
Despite the grief over losing his grandmother, he doggedly pushed on and his song More Than I was commissioned by the reality show. Throughout the competition, he always received the highest number of votes; this fact was released few weeks before the end of the reality show. Unsurprisingly, he won the Idols West Africa in 2007.
Timi Dakolo Was Shot.
On January 1st, 2008, Timi attended a church service in company of some friends at the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt and he was shot by a stray bullet by the Niger Delta Militants who were randomly just shooting. The wound was not grievous; so he was discharged from hospital that same day whereas a security guard at the hotel who also took a bullet died.
He released his first single, comprising three hit songs in 2009. In 2011, he released another hit single tilted There’s A Cry which was filmed in Nigeria. That same year, he released an album titled Beautiful Noise. His singles are: There’s A Cry (2011), Iyawo Mi (2014), Wish Me Well (2015), The Vow (2016), Medicine (2017), I Never Know Say (2018). He was signed Lone Records and he is one of the Judges on the reality show The Voice Nigeria along with other judges like Patroranking and the likes.
He was nominated by Headies in 2010 for Hip Hop World Revelation Of The Year.
In 2012, he married his beautiful wife, A popular and professional photographer.

Busola Dakolo And Biodun Fatoyinbo, The Pastor And Founder Of COZA?
Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola Dakolo alleged that the pastor Commonwealth of Zion (COZA) raping her when she still a virgin as a young girl after her husband called out the pastor of the church in a series of posts on Instagram to answer the serial allegations of rapes and sexual molestation against him.

The wife said in an interview with Chude Jidenowo, my house. My house then, the gate was opened but the living room is where you just knock the door and someone will come downstairs and open the door. However, my mum had travelled with my younger sister. It was just I and my elder sister at home. The house was a duplex so big that if you are in a room upstairs you won't know what's going on downstairs. So I came down. Normally, it was 6:30 am to 7 am pretty early, and I heard a knock. Ah, who's that, Pastor Biodun. I couldn't say anything because what he doing here this early?
"Immediately I opened the door, he just pushed me. He didn't say anything, didn't utter any word, he just pushed me to one of the chairs in my living room and I saw him, he was removing his belt.
"So I was like what? And he said, 'keep quiet, do what I want and you will be fine'. At this point, a whole lot was going on in my head because he was someone I had put up here and I thought was really really concerned about me. I had already filled him in the place of a father that could speak to me, guide me and he was there about to do something I did not believe.
When I was about to react, he covered my mouth and when he did he said, Busola, listen to me and you will be fine, just do what I want you to do. I didn't struggle, I just left him and he brought out his penis. I was wearing a nightgown and pant, he pulled down my pant found difficulty to enter I was grunting, I would cry and he eventually penetrated, blood dropped on the floor. At that point, he finished what he wanted to do, had an orgasm and he zipped up. He left me there, I just sat on the floor and he went out.It looks just like an event but after that whole lot damaged within me. He entered his car, came back with Crest a soft drink with green content. It was already opened so he just poured it in my mouth and I had to swallow as he did that. He tapped me and said, you should be happy I'm the one that did this to you and he said I'll see you and he left.
"He said, 'be happy a man of God did this to you, disvirgined you'. At this point he was already a pastor in Ilorin, his wife had given birth to their first child Shindara and I was in the choir."
She said she went public because she could no longer suffer the psychological abuse. Mrs. Dakolo’s allegations led to series of protests at COZA church branches in Lagos and Abuja.
Following the series of these allegations from other women, the pastor denied the allegation by Busola Dakolo; he said he was taking “leave of absence because it is the right thing to do”. The pastor said that he is absolutely innocent but stepping down is the right thing to do.
Throughout all these trying and one sided cyber war between his wife and pastor Fatoyinbo, Timi stood by his wife and supported her. He was often on social media, calling on the pastor to answer the allegations leveled against him. Several celebs, politicians, human right activists, concerned citizens and men of God had voiced their different opinions on the issue.
